Régis Souto

Artist member since 2026
Toronto, Ontario

Régis Souto is a queer, Brazilian-born, Toronto-based figurative painter working in oil, mixed media, and digital — building images where memory becomes material. Based in Toronto since 2014, his work explores identity, migration, belonging, and queer resilience: tropical birds suspended against black fields, carnival faces outlined by choice, bodies negotiating between discipline and desire. Each canvas is a negotiation between what the body carries and what the world allows to be seen.

His current series, Prismatic Identity, investigates self-perception, change, and layers of material as metaphor for identity in constant transformation.

Régis's solo exhibition, Beyond the Contour, ran at The Show Gallery, Toronto, in April 2026 — seven days, three acts, one hundred thirty visitors. His work has also shown in group exhibitions across Toronto since 2024, and as part of Pride Toronto's ARTZONE program at CF Eaton Centre in June 2026.
